a $5B in impairment of GW would be an "extraordinary" charge and one time charge. Therefore, by definition, are this type of charge would not be included in Intel's EPS numbers from continuing operations.

Now, if Intel wrote down their Venture Portfolio, on the other hand, I believe that that "writedown" should be included in Intel's continuing operations EPS especially since Intel argued so strenuously that Investment Income would be continuing.
