re: calls, ahead of earnings, volatility may rise and give expensive premiums, that just happened big time on JDSU/SDLI ahead of JDSU earnings. Stock went up a bunch the next day, but option prices went down. IVs!!!! There was some article in Bearron's about a fund dude that sells CC's the day of earnings, likes it.
