Re: Performing the scan revealed that I had picked up several hundred agents over the past two years on the laptop that I'm now using -- three-hundred and forty-two (342) agents, to be exact,

I'm not exactly sure what these "agents" are, but I regularly use Ad Aware to scour unwanted spyware(?) off my computer. The nice thing about this program is that it lists all the offending bits by source, so that I don't inadvertently eliminate anything I want to save. So far, I've never done anything other than to delete all the bogeys identified by Ad Aware.

As far as cookies are concerned, a friend of mine who built my puter suggested that a monthly scrubbing of all cookies is a prudent measure. I don't quite adhere to the monthly schedule, but this seemed like good advice, as well.

If you've got 342 agents, I'll bet you've got about 300 you could lose without any loss of utility. :)
