Life is a lot more than a marketplace. Granted that almost all aspects of life involve exchange of some sort or another, but when the exchange is of something freely given and freely received, the marketplace metaphor is inappropriate, IMO. That is why I object, by the way, to the phrase "marketplace of ideas." I suppose whoever coined it had in mind that ideas "compete" with one another, but after all, they do not engage in price wars with one another, etc., and hopefully the "consumers" do not go for the "cheapest," etc.
And, no, I am not planning to do away with myself. Should I be?
