Speaking of the devil himself, I assume you read that frightening tale in today's WSJ about GE jet engines ripping themselves apart..

I can only imagine the look on the crew's faces as they discovered their DC-10 was taking off on only one of three engines...

Having been in some suspenseful "hairy-butt" situations myself, while flying in military choppers, I can imagine what was going through the passengers minds for those 30 minutes they circled around dumping fuel and hoping they could land on one engine. At least in a helicopter, one has the option of autorotating to a semi-soft landing.
