llmarinen,

I sorta fell for the WAP trap back in february when I got my 7110. My experience of WAP performance during the March-May period was fairly negative, with many wap server timeouts (out of the direct control of the airwave service provider) and in the best cases, the wap real time information was not so real time. Kinda important when stock sWapping. Since then, I have had to pay for my calls so I just can't be bothered using the service. What has been your experience?

My understanding of GPRS is that the mobile's transmitter wouldn't require anymore power than that required for voice (in packet dedicated mode). At any rate, more mobile tx power would irritate the base station from an interference point of view. On the other hand, the mobile will be working overtime on the reception of all those animations. It is not clear to me at this point,if GPRS can make use of Discontinuous Reception (DTX) which is a standard GSM enabled feature to save battery life. In other words, DTX reception in GSM means that the mobile listens in only during those timeslots relevant to it and goes to sleep the rest of the time. Since there are are more time slots to listen to, this implies more power drain on the reception end.
