Tangram Announces DMI Discovery Capabilities For Asset
Insight(R) Leading Edge Technology Announced At Gartner Total
Cost of Ownership Conference

PALM SPRINGS, Calif., March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Tangram Enterprise Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq: TESI - news) a
provider of business software for tracking Information Technology (IT) assets in the distributed enterprise,
announced today that the company will ship a new Asset Insight(R) Desktop Management Interface (DMI)
Discovery Module. This enhancement will provide Asset Insight users with an additional option for automatically
discovering hardware and software asset information. The new discovery module will be shipped to customers at no
additional cost in the second quarter of '98.

Presently, Asset Insight collects current and historical information reflecting hardware, software and configuration file
changes via auto discovery. With the new DMI Discovery Module, early adopters of the DMI standard will be able
to use Asset Insight to discover, track and audit attributes of DMI 2.0-compliant workstations during Asset Insight
regularly scheduled inventories. According to Steve Kuekes, chief technology officer for Tangram, and a member of
the Desktop Management Task Force (DMTF), by empowering decision makers with additional information on their
workstation assets, organizations can maximize their employees' desktop efficiency, as well as the cost-effectiveness
of their technology dollars.

When the Asset Insight DMI discovery module detects a DMI-compliant asset, Kuekes said it will read and capture
the DMI information and create a historical record of this DMI data. The DMI data may include: serial numbers,
parallel ports, network adapters, boot ROM, physical disks, operating systems, UPS batteries, serial ports, power
supplies, system BIOS, memory, video, and system resource IRQ. Once discovered, Asset Insight will store the
information in a central asset repository where it can be merged into reports, along with other discovered asset
information, to support lifecycle asset management and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) initiatives.

''As organizations upgrade their systems to make their enterprises Y2K compliant, a growing number of PCs will be
DMI-enabled,'' Kuekes stated. ''As an asset tracking software provider, Tangram does an outstanding job of
helping organizations track their changing assets. Since we recognize the collective benefits DMI can bring to the
enterprise and asset tracking in general, Tangram is dedicated to maintaining a leadership role in supporting
organizations that make a strategic commitment to asset tracking and the DMI standard.''

Peter Cantelon, chair of the DMTF's Cost of Ownership Working Group, said he's pleased that Tangram is taking a
key role in the development of new technologies that utilize the benefits of DMI. ''It is very exciting to see vendors
like Tangram taking the lead and offering their clients access to the cost reduction benefits of DMI,'' said Cantelon.
''Organizations that utilize the functionality of DMI within the corporate environment will not only realize a lower cost
of ownership, they will be better equipped to focus their energies on the benefits of ownership.''

Winston Bumpus, president of the DMTF concurs. ''Using industry standards to manage assets in corporate IT
environments is an important way to reduce costs,'' Bumpus said. ''Tangram is offering an asset tracking solution that
will leverage the benefits of DMI to its customers, which in turn will help to lower their total cost of ownership.''
