BH lost credibility on the forecasting function as result of 1998 incident
our group gained colossal credibility
I was asked to tackle the internet business forecast as a result
some VP made a statement:
"we cannot allow any screwups, so we will have the Forecasting Group handle this, and all of planning and inventory will be based upon their numbers"
BH's senior VP manager deferred to our group from that time onward
compromises were frequently made during 1999
as we passed BH's manager in the hallways, he would make some overly buttshining comment about "forecast pros"
to which I would nod, shake me head, and make no comment
her senior VP was 6 years younger than me, somewhat green
I played the politics miserably, speaking my mind openly
I played the chessgame beautifully, winning mindshare of VP's
politics has NO PLACE for the truth when it clashes
it became almost funny, as VP's told me and my manager that they would hesitate to speak against BrunHilda openly, but support us privately
then again, the real influence is behind the scenes
BrunHilda only hastened my departure
I was planning to stay at Staples until the spring
when the fiscal year approached its end, I thought long and hard and concluded
by staying until the end of the fiscal year, I kept my 1999 annual bonus, just delivered
"I AM OUTTAHERE"
if you guys at Staples read this, get back to work, jackasses
