It is my experience that employee stock options are not carried as a liability on the books due to their contingent nature. They are usually reflected in the fine print of a note to the financials. My point about not being a problem is that they are currently worthless. Now, if management rewrites them at the lower price, well ...

I certainly agree with you that the decline in the value of these options has had to taken an emotional toll. The employees certainly have to feel a lot poorer.
