And not enough - if any - who actually make and post buys. Perhaps these are people who lack faith and/or understanding of his formulaic approach.

The method is part of the fun of the whole thing, and recreating what Greenblatt is doing is part of understanding what's going on. I think some folks are close - but there are stocks that show up very high on my list that aren't on his lists at all. For example - ACN Accenture is at the top of my large cap list ($5B and up) but is nowhere on his website list. RCII Rent-a-center and DWA Dreamworks are near the top of my mid-cap list but are not on his website's list. It's this kind of thing that bothers me - I'm still not tying in to what he's doing.

Greenblatt's stocks are largely new territory for me. I've tended toward more growth than value over the years and this method produces a different profile of company - most of which I'm unfamiliar with. CECO and KSWS are the only stocks in his top 50 stocks over 500mil mkt cap that overlay my current list of stocks using the Buffettology based screens/projection methodology I primarily use.

imho confidence in my investment approach is a big part of what works for me. I stick with my current approach because I've tested it for several years, learned my tendencies, and made myself aware of the types of mistakes I tend to make and types of situations I just need to avoid (ex: averaging down is bad for me). There's a learning curve. With Greenblatt's approach I'm at the bottom of the curve, and confidence level is low... but I'd like to get 30% returns so I'm working to understand. I'm planning to start a marketocracy fund to track performance, but it'll take several years for a convincing track record to build before confidence is built.

On the positive side: These screens give me a reason to buy Marvel Entertainment. I'm a super-hero fan <g> and read comics when I was younger. X-Men was one of my favorites.
