The only new drives I will buy to put in a case are SSD. For storage I have had for several month's three wd mycloud drives. Two are 4TB and one is a 2TB. They are linux based NAS. They also can be USB3 interfaced. I use a Gigabit 8 port switch.
I mount them on linux nfs and mount on windows xp and 7 as drives as Samba mygroup shares. 92.168.1.48 Network Storage T-nas-1-48 (in MYGROUP), Western Digital Apache Web Server, Samba Server 192.168.1.49 Network Storage U-nas1-49 (in MYGROUP), Western Digital Apache Web Server, Samba Server 192.168.1.50 Network Storage V-nas1-50-b (in MYGROUP), Western Digital Apache Web Server, Samba Server
The names reflect the drives letters assigned.
Linux mount as root
# mount Western Digital NAS echo mount Western Digital NAS mount -o soft,intr,rsize=8192,wsize=8192 192.168.1.48:/nfs /nas1.48 #4T mount -o soft,intr,rsize=8192,wsize=8192 192.168.1.49:/nfs /nas1.49 #4T mount -o soft,intr,rsize=8192,wsize=8192 192.168.1.50:/nfs /nas1.50
There is a web interface 192.168.1.48 I set fixed IP's system names nasIP.IP or nas1.48 They are seemlessly available on all systems.
You can also log in to the linux server with sh and do rcp to or from.
Once set up they are nobrain to use. You can make them internet visible, da cloud. I do not I want local visibility only. |
