Well the upside is that, now that they've merged, at least their corporate cultures won't clash. :o)

I've never had this particular problem. But I did have a lengthy argument with the AOL customer service guy about "advance billing" when I cancelled back in 1995. I eventually had to talk to a "supervisor" who was actually even more rude! Companies that bill in advance really get my dander up. AT&T Worldnet doesn't bill in advance, the phone company doesn't, the power company doesn't, the gas company doesn't, and the cable company doesn't. But AOL sure does.

FWIW, I can absolutely guarantee you that I don't bill in advance either. My customers would go ballistic.
