it depends. usually current month, but if it is close to expiry or i see something looming over the expiry horizon i will go to the next month. occassionally i will dabble with leaps on those rare occassions when everyone seems to be thinking the same way and the contrarian premium dries up. risky business, though, so whatever the play i never bet more than a fixed percentage at any given time. like zeev says: capital preservation is the most important thing.
