PBS station KCTS listed in the news release was the one that said last month it hadn't begun testing the Broadcast Architecture in my area. So it sounds like the hardware from MS is on the way to broadcasters for what, on the splash screen in last weeks Win98 build, has become: "Microsoft WebTV for Windows".

We have been downloading StarSight's program guide (for what was called the Microsoft TV Viewer) from a net server -- looks like they might receive it from PBS's Starsight feed too. They have said you will be able to receive any two consecutive days listings free.

It's interesting to note that in last weeks Win98 build "WebTV for Windows" was deactivated.... maybe they are integrating WaveTop's software into it????? Isn't it a coincidence that it is the same week that WaveTop beta 2.0 is released?

I'm betting that WaveTop will become a 'channel' on WebTV boxes as well as Win98. That's probably why Microsoft was enthusiastically showing WaveTop at the internet shows.

I'm also suspecting that MS will use WaveTop broadcasts as the means to update Microsoft brand software on your computer... we are currently testing a means of updating components of Win98 over the net, which is exceedingly slow. WaveTop is a great bulk software delivery medium.

The lineup of PBS's VBI usage so far is: one line for Starsight's guide, and currently two lines for WavePhore's data feed with options for more WaveTop lines.
