just a reminder...

for norton antivirus users, did you know that there are 2 sets of rescue disks? one set for recovering from system crashes and one for recovering from virus crashes. do you have both rescue disk sets updated and ready to go?

the systemworks user guide (or similar manual if you purchased just the av software) will instruct you on how to create the disks. i just completed mine. it took 5 floppies, after which i rebooted with the boot disk in A:drive to test the set. not much sense in creating the set if i don't check to see if it'll boot my system, is there?

to add to what might be a confusing array of rescue disks, there is a third set of 3 'emergency disks' that come with systemworks. these disks are to boot your system if it is crashed prior to installing systemworks. these 3 disks know nothing about your specific machine. after you've successfully installed systemworks, i don't think they really serve a purpose other than to confuse people with yet another set of rescue disks.

so, in order to be diligent with an av program, the way i see it, one must

a) continually download upgraded virus definitions from the web
b) run virus scans
c) create virus rescue disks

these are minimal, yet effective, steps one should be taking to guard against infection. there are, of course, many more safeguards and precautions we can take.

one other word on these antivirus rescue disks... they too must be kept current. any addition of new hardware, operating system, repartition of hd, etc, the disks must be updated.

good luck!

:)
