1) when would I know if I'm allocated?
Don't know for Waterhouse, but Etrade tells you the night before trading.
2) How fast do I need to respond, is it first come first serve?
If you get shares, you probably don't need to respond do you?
3) Would they tell you the number of shares one is allocated before the IPO actually trades in the market?
Yes
4) Do they check your cash portion of your total equity before deciding if one is to be allocated, even if one won the lottery?
Yes...but again don't know how Waterhouse does these things.
