There was a huge void between the old crew and that which we see today. Maybe a chasm makes for a better picture. The good news is we seem to have finally transitioned to the other side.

An important factor in transitioning was breaking solidly above $125B in market cap. Uncopiously following big technology over the years, points to this level being a serious differentiator of leaders verses wannabees. This also sorta follows along with your EPS comments.

Five dollars was the eps limit forever. That limited our market cap. Cash was going into the business but not necessarily in a fruitful manner. We popped when that trend was broken. When it became clear where the new limit resided (ie Ten dollars) we took a consolidation hit. The old and tired distributed, the new and enfreshed accumulated.

Strategy was tweeked in 2017. With many, many irons in today's fire continuing to grow from this new base is realistic. Today it's more like whack-a-mole but hopefully in a more steady-eddie manner.

Once one's proven one's worth, partnering with all comers makes most sense.
