o/t Wade... if you think describing the Slider was difficult ....

Try the "Split Fingered Fastball"... aka Forkball, or at least a modern variation of the Elroy Face-esque "Forkball" of yesteryear.

Star Reliever Bruce Sutter brought it back to the forefront in the 70's/80's and now Pitchers like Roger Clemens have made it part & parcel of many Pitchers Repetoire... it's also a great Pitch for Aging Pitchers to add later in their career.

Also a great Pitch to teach young players - vs. the Slider....as it's much easier on their arms/elbow tendons/ligaments etc.

Lot's of damage and many careers ended from the torque applied to the elbow in throwing the Slider.

Then there's Burt Hootens Knuckle-Curve, the Knuckleball, the Slurve, or the now seemingly forgotten Screwball as well.

I can't even think of a contemporary Pitcher with a dominant Screwball today - help anyone ?

...Mike Marshall the Kiniesology Afficiando/Relief Pitcher of years ago is the last Pitcher I remember who at least "featured" a Screwball.

- another Pitch very hard on the Elbow.

Fwiw.. concerning the Slider being so difficult to hit... there have been a few Players who had little difficulty - including another "Wade"... aka Mr. Boggs.

- maybe it had something to do with all the Chicken ?
