I listened to a Sly & the Family Stone song this weekend, and I wondered if he was still alive. To my shock, he was still alive and 82. I could not believe it. He abused his body with drugs, smoking, and anything he could get his hands on. He was also homeless for a time.

Well, he died today:

Bootsy Collins said in 1982 that Sly was the greatest musician he'd ever known. Bootsy played in tons of bands, including James Brown, Parliament Funkadelic, and his solo work. That's high praise coming from Bootsy, one of the most iconic bass players ever.
