To everyone that tried to help me.

I never did solve my DSL/browsing problem. After spending much time on it, I decided it was a combination of having an relatively old Compaq with limited options, and Windows98 being unstable or quirky at best. So I dumped it and bought a new high octane PowerMac G4. If I can't get this puppy to work then something is seriously wrong. Thanks again for all the help.
