much bigger news for QCOM than just an iPhone on Verizon?

It's becoming less important for QCOM to have components in an iPhone with CDMA2000 because of the increasing popularity of smart phones using the Android system. The acceptance of Motorola's new Droid X is encouraging. I'd prefer seeing smart phones out there with the Snapdragon chip, and that's not going to happen with an Apple iPhone.

Apple is exhibiting the classic characteristics of companies that, through earlier successes, have become too arrogant for their own good. It's what I call the Pierce Arrow syndrome. Back in the early ages of cars, in the 1920's, the Pierce Arrow was considered by far the best luxury car, and much better than Cadillac or Packard. The attitude of Pierce Arrow salesmen was that sooner or later a luxury car buyer would buy a Pierce Arrow because it was the best. They were in no frame of mind to offer a deal or discount, no matter what. But Cadillac had better engineering and lower production costs. So much for Pierce Arrow.

I think Apple is about to travel the same route.
