Nvidia teams with Google to design quantum AI processors

Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) said on Monday that it is working with Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) to design quantum artificial intelligence processors.

Nvidia shares fell 1.6% on Monday, while Google shares rose 1.3%.

Google Quantum AI is using the hybrid quantum-classical computing platform and the NVIDIA Eos supercomputer — comprised of 1,024 H100 GPUs — to perform the work and simulate the physics of quantum processors.

“The development of commercially useful quantum computers is only possible if we can scale up quantum hardware while keeping noise in check,” said Guifre Vidal, research scientist from Google Quantum AI, in a statement. “Using NVIDIA accelerated computing, we’re exploring the noise implications of increasingly larger quantum chip designs.”

“AI supercomputing power will be helpful to quantum computing’s success,” Nvidia executive Tim Costa added. “Google’s use of the CUDA-Q platform demonstrates the central role GPU-accelerated simulations have in advancing quantum computing to help solve real-world problems.”

The announcement comes ahead of Nvidia's fiscal third-quarter results, slated to be released after the close of trading on November 20. A consensus of analysts expect the company will earn $0.74 per share on $33.03B in revenue.
