S3's Aurora64V+(TM) Selected by Compaq for the New Armada 7300
Notebooks

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The world's largest supplier of graphics, video and multimedia
acceleration hardware*, S3(R) Incorporated (Nasdaq:SIII) announced that Aurora64V+ will power the graphics for
Compaq's (NYSE:CPQ) new Armada 7300 Notebook PC's. PC Magazine recently rated Compaq's Armada7750MT --
also powered by S3's Aurora64V+ -- the highest performing 2D business graphics notebook.

``As the first in a family of notebook accelerators, the Aurora64V+ delivers desktop level performance and features the
industry's only single chip dual display capabilities,'' said Rick Bergman, vice president and general manager of the mobile
products group, S3 Incorporated. ``S3 is clearly the volume leader in the desktop graphics market and is committed to
leveraging this success in the notebook market.''

Compaq's Armada 7300

The Armada 7300 series uses a 64-bit S3 Aurora64V+ chipset with dual display accelerator, designed to provide superior
video/graphics performance for a notebook computer. This combination of technology provides brilliant, professional quality,
photo-realistic images in dual display with simultaneous display in different resolutions and refresh rates. For example, when
giving boardroom presentations using the Armada 7300, users don't have to worry about the resolution of the external display.
High-quality video acceleration adds even more realism, utilizing 24-bit, 30 frames-per-second (fps) full motion and full screen
video.

S3's Aurora64V+

Based on S3's award winning Trio64V+(TM) accelerator, the Aurora64V+ multimedia accelerator with DuoView technology
provides notebook computer users with the industry's first single chip dual display capability and a true 64-bit graphics
architecture. By providing separate timing and refresh rates, S3's ``DuoView'' capability enables users to display different
images simultaneously on separate displays or the same image on any LCD and NTSC/PAL TV monitor or CRT monitor. This
enables users to increase the effective size of their PC display area to enable an array of new capabilities -- such as the ability
to display a presentation while simultaneously viewing notes on an LCD or provide multiple screens for video conferences.

Enabling S3's DuoView capabilities, Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT) has incorporated multi-monitor/different image support into its
developer release of the next Windows operating system, code-named Memphis. S3's DuoView accelerators are the only
products currently capable of providing Level 2 multiple monitor support with a single chip. In addition, S3 is currently
developing software utilities that will allow end-users to take advantage of DuoView while using Microsoft's Windows 95 and
Windows NT operating systems.
