Typically an appeal bond, a supersedeas bond, is required in a civil case, to stay the enforcement of the Judgment, not as a prerequisite to the appeal itself. In other words, you can still appeal the Judgment without placing the bond but the Plaintiff, can proceed to enforce (collect) the Judgment if no bond is placed.
