The Blackberry Bold 9780 will join RIM's Torch 9800, which was the first OS6 phone available in the U.S. when AT&T began selling it Aug. 12 for $199. The second OS6 phone will be the Style, which becomes available Oct. 31 through Sprint at $99.
Whereas the Torch features touchscreen with slide-down QWERTY keyboard, and the Style is a clamshell with full QWERTY keyboard, the Bold 9780 is a candybar-style phone without touchscreen but with trackpad and full QWERTY keyboard. The 9780 will be available in black or white at $129.99 after $50 mail-in rebate beginning Nov. 17 at T-Mobile retail stores, the company's website and select dealers.
The new OS brings a new user interface to simply access to key features, universal search, an improved Web browsing experience with faster page-loading and tabbed browsing, and integrated social-network and news feeds. The OS also lets users jump faster between applications and provides for multitasking.
The OS also features graphical, context-sensitive pop-up menus, a new multimedia UI, and new apps for downloading podcasts and watching YouTube videos.
