Compaq CEO sees merger on track for March vote SAN FRANCISCO, Jan 30 (Reuters) - Compaq Computer Corp. (NYSE:CPQ - news) Chief Executive Michael Capellas said on Wednesday that his company and Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE:HWP - news) are determined to hold shareholder votes in March to approve their merger, and regulatory approval is on track for that.
``I think I can speak for us collectively - HP - here. We are absolutely bound and determined to get the vote in March. We actually think it is in our best interest to have the vote in March,'' he said in an interview with Reuters.
``All the processes are moving forward,'' he said. "Whether it's filing the S-4 (merger plan document), regulatory approval, all the things are going through, our filing 10-Ks (annual reports), are moving forward quickly.
``Should something unforeseen happen, do we have the option of moving it, for something we didn't see coming? The answer is yes,'' he added. ``But there is nothing indicating. One, we have no desire to do that, and from visibility and the components we have -- we are watching pretty damn carefully -- we don't see that happening.''
However, Capellas said he had not heard yet from European regulators on whether they would approve the deal or prolong their investigation for four months. They are due to rule by Thursday. |
