That's the concern for me as well. I'm trying to decide whether to cash in a pretty significant Microsoft position in order to take a shot at a turn -around with Apple at this depressed price.
My knowledge of Apple is simply that my wife uses one at MIT and there is a hard core of academics (excluding my wife) who love the things beyond reason.
I prefer the Wintel stuff because I am a lawyer and for me it's basically just spreadsheets, internet and word processing. I hate mice, and I'm stuck with the stupid things with either platform these days.
Most of the people I know are business types and our local school has dropped Apple to go the pc route. In the stores, all I see are Wintels and the idiots, like myself, who should be buying Apples are price conscious and are buying Wintels.
Should I buy Apple? Generally, my best investments have always been with companies that had good managers and good ceo's. Maybe we Americans just like superstars, but I am leery of this amorphous Apple management which doesn't buy stock in the company it is leading. If I thought Jobs was serious about Apple again, I would be encouraged. But I think he is just taking them for an expensive ride.
So I haven't made my mind up whether it makes sense to sell MSFT to buy AAPL. It is informative to follow this board, because you folks know much more about the technology than I do. I'm not convinced that the best technology wins in the stock market, but I have learned some things in the last few days and thank you for that.
