Re: Adaptec's 64-bit drivers.... Adaptec doesn't make high end disk controllers - they offer no product suitable for the type of system being proposed as a platform for Itanium. This announced support is certainly not a bad thing for Itanium, but more relevant would be support from Mylex and AMI (which may exist, but I haven't seen it yet). In the coming weeks and months, we will all also have to be careful not to confuse support for 64 bit PCI with support for a 64 bit OS. Remember, Pentium classic, K6, Celeron, Athlon, even Cyrix are all 64 bit in the sense that the memory bus between the CPU and Chipset, and the main backside memory bus are 64 bits wide (except in Rambus systems which are 16 or 32 bit memory bus). 64 bit PCI does exist in conjunction with 32 bit processors and operating systems.
