Regarding your questions about local Ampex activity in Colorado Springs:

Most of the workers I know at Ampex have either been pink-slipped or went to other companies; unfortunately, some went to Digital, which has performed even worse than Ampex, having recently liquidated 95% of the local workforce! The two worst performing companies (in terms of employment levels only) in Colorado Springs are Digital and Ampex. As for the feelings of workers, let me put it this way: There are ten times as many ex-Ampex employees as active employees! However, I haven't talked with any active Ampex employees recently.

Regarding local news reports, I haven't read any. There hasn't been any "big" news in the local papers.

Regarding Ampex having a strong community presence, I would say the presence is not very good and has been waning for the past ten years. Let's just say most in Colorado Springs would shy away from employment at Ampex given the poor employment history (numerous reduction-in-force actions); by far, Hewlett Packard is the most sought-after job in town.

Regarding Ampex hiring, there has been no significant increases recently. There are no advertisements in the local paper (Gazette Telegraph)-- including no new manufacturing/production positions. This seems strange to me: If Ampex does have a hot new product, they certainly are not ramping-up the production line in Colorado Springs. Perhaps Ampex isn't actually building the final/whole product? Perhaps Ampex is just going to build key components? Perhaps they will just make a profit off licensing/royalties? These scenarios wouldn't surprise me; it would confirm past behavior....

Regards,
Trenton.
