I recently bought a Dell XPS 8920 at Costco to replace a 6 yr. old custom PC, now running W10 home. I have been trying to find info on the web to transfer all my software, except for W10, which came pre-installed on the new machine's SSD.

Some potential problems that I know of:
  • All my software is installed on the old machine's C drive, including W10, so I assume I can't do a straight transfer to the new machine's 1 TB HD. Or if I do, will I be able to uninstall W10 from that disk?
  • All of my critical data is also on the C drive. Until recently the C drive was backed up regularly to external drives with Acronis 2016.Acronis 2016 threw me a curve ball a while ago, rendering it unusable. Fed up, I uninstalled it.
  • Is there a good backup program that will also allow me to transfer software to a different machine?
  • I only have one monitor
I apologize for the long question and also for my extended absence on SI due to medical problems.

Thanks for any suggestions.

John
