ted, With one year to go I expect that AMD is fielding a socket based cache containing Athlon as a candidate to MSFT and MSFT wants to be sure it works. MSFT has done a lot of code optimisation for the AThlon and is probably doing the same for the P-III to maximise the throughput of each system.

Actually when I posted my comments last nite, I realized that MSFT has wanted Intel probably from the beginning but at a good price. I think AMD was a long shot. I suspect MSFT had concerns that AMD could not produce the volumes that they might need and that makes sense.....unfortunately.

Its too bad we got caught up in the game.
