Tom,

Amazing isn't it. As we know, a computer is a "high speed idiot". Unless it is programmed to be "year dependent" it wouldn't know or care that it is 2000.

I got involved in the debate big-time when someone warned that pace-makers might stop working on Dec 31. I wrote articles, gave speeches, and was interviewed saying "not to worry" things won't be very bad. Even I was surprised how few problems there were.

Speaking of the billions that were spent, I run a computer software business, and I didn't charge my clients one cent to fix "problems" that I did not feel existed. My competitors, however, charged big bucks to audit companies and "fix" problems that were obviously not there. Some companies even sold a computer board to install so your computer would continue working in the new year.

I bothers me that I took a lot of abuse, and was accused of not understanding the problem, and not protecting my clients while my competition cleaned up. There should be some "reward" for putting your reputation on the line and not taking advantage of others fears for profit.

Oh well, at least we are still doing well, and my clients have a lot of faith in my word now.

Jim
