I completely understand your point. I haven't written many options yet, but will very shortly start employing these strategies routinely. To answer your question, I think it's because of inexperience with the concept of options (myself included, although my fear has now evaporated and given way to confidence!). Also, there is a need to locate a group of stocks worth writing options on. This requires work and due diligence on each stock. If you have a very short list of stocks which you trust, there are fewer points in time to take advantage of options the most. Thus I think, there will be an increased tendency to hold onto the stock you know the most and write conservatively, JMHO.
