i'm most interested in anyone who can give me their take on this method of both backing up and then restoring the registry. this is the backup technique i have been using prior to running regedit, but i have never had to restore the registry.
any comments on this method will be appreciated.
"You can back up the Registry in Windows Explorer.
Select View, Folder Options (or View, Options). Click
the View tab, select Show All Files, and click OK. Now
create a folder called C:\Regback. Go to the Windows
folder, find the files system.dat and user.dat, then hold
down Ctrl as you drag those two files to C:\Regback.
If you need to restore the Registry, you must first exit
to DOS. Do this by selecting Start, Shut Down, Restart
in MS-DOS mode. At the DOS prompt, type the
following commands, pressing Enter at the end of each
line:
attrib ðr ðs ðh c:\regback\*.*
attrib ðr ðs ðh c:\windows\user.dat
attrib ðr ðs ðh c:\windows\system.dat
copy c:\regback\*.* c:\windows /y
attrib +r +s +h c:\windows\user.dat
attrib +r +s +h c:\windows\system.dat"
