AOL misses estimate

I don't understand why the interpretation of the earnings was .04 ahead of expectations. A full .08 was due to gains in investments, which is NOT AOL business. Analysts DO NOT base estimates on possible investment gains for obvious reasons. When Loews Corp reported last night they had two numbers. The first was their business earnings, and the second was their overall number which was much different from their estimate because they lost millions trading derivatives in the futures market betting on a correction. As far as I am concerned AOL missed by a full .04. My guess is the market will figure this out by morning and the stock will trade lower. I have no position in this company.
