Btw, Yhoo's S/P inclusion bought both Vanguard(about 18m shares) and Fidelity(19M) into as their large institutuional holders. However, the inclusion date was around 12/20/99 and those shares were traded(bot) at the Yhoo's all time high price.

I say that the index funds are far less emotional(than the hedgers) and will just go with the "price/#of shares" index adjustments accordingly.
