While I have not invested in WEBs, I understand that they function like an index fund. Therefore the question is whether actively managed country funds are better than passively managed WEBs. We all know that an S&P 500 index fund has significantly outperformed actively managed domestic equity funds but I have not seen any comparison between WEBs and single country closed-end funds. The advantage of a single country closed-end fund is that it trades like a stock on the NYSE and usually at a steep discount to its net asset value (i.e., the value of the stocks in their portfolio).
