The Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, Canada!!!

Hi Richard,
Great idea for a thread! Here's the scoop on a great vacation area.

Stay in one of the numerous bed & breakfasts (available throughout Nova Scotia). The prices are pretty reasonable... especially for people from U.S. We have often found nice places on farms, etc... (nothing fancy, but like your "grandparent's farm") for about $25 - $40(Canadian) per night for 2 people. If you like to hike, check out the Blomidon and Cape Split areas... Bay of Fundy tides are great... big "flats" where you can dig clams. Annapolis Valley has a lot of farms with orchards, etc... and even a town called "Paradise". We rented innertubes at a town called Gaspereau and tubed down the Gaspereau River... (That was about 3 years ago though... so don't count on that still being the same... Some guy in town had a heap of tubes on the lawn and you could rent them from him... take them upriver to a small hydro dam and "launch" into the river for a lazy ride down through forests and by grazing cattle...It was great). Recently, several vineyards/wineries have been established around the Falmouth area...apparently the wine is good and you can tour the places, etc... but I don't know much about that yet. Gardeners can visit the "Botanical Gardens" at Annapolis Royal... very nice spot. Check out "whale-watching" trips too... I think that a couple of the whale research foundations work out of that area and take visitors along to help raise $$$ for their work... also some more commercial ventures too. The entire area is not very commercial... very rural... NOT like the Maine coast which we found pretty densely populated when we visited there last summer. If you like hiking, peace, quiet, nature, this is the spot. For more info, check out this website:

Now let's hear about YOUR favourite spot!!!
