1) I believe we have reached the point where gigabit ethernet will the backbone of choice for LANs while ATM will remain the choice for telco backbones. ATM will likely not reach the desktop until applications that take advantage of features like QoS are widely needed. Even then, the shear bandwidth of G/E may obviate the need for ATM because what you can't provide in priority mechanisms you can make up for in shear bandwidth. In other words... I have a video stream coming from my ATM network, ok, maybe I don't have a priority scheme on my G/E LAN to run it, but I have so much bandwidth I can "download" and cache and play it back in near real time.

2) Gigabit ethernet revenue producers in next 5 years? Cisco, Bay,
The small guys like NBase will probably be also-rans by that time.
