This weekend's Financial Post features top industry analysts who are identified as the best and brightest performers in 1997. Gord Currie of Cannaccord Capital was deemed the best of his breed in the Oil Services sector with the performance of his stock picks having outshone those of his peers. One of his 5 top picks for 1998 includes Richland Petroleum Corp. Here's how the write-up went:

Currie has grown fond of Richland Petroleum Corp., which he thinks is a turnaround candidate with room for the multiple to grow.

"Richland is a company that has been out of favor," Currie says. "It has gotten a new vice-president of exploration, chief operating officer and chief financial officer in the past four months; its debt is two time cash flow so not at a critical level; and it is changing its style by diversifying." Richland (RLPa/TSE) closed recently at $3.20, and has a 52-week range of $5.75 to $2.85. Currie is still crunching numbers but has a conservative 52-week target of $5 on the stock.
