Webcaster Sets IPO

Dallas-based Broadcast.com Inc. has filed to raise an
estimated $35 million in an initial public offering. The
registration notice from the pioneering Webcasting
company to the Securities and Exchange Commission
reports that Broadcast.com, then known as Audio Net.
Inc., had gross revenues in 1996 of $1.7 million and a net
loss of $3.0 million, compared to revenues in 1997 of $6.8
million and a loss of $6.6 million.

For the first three months
of 1998, compared to the first quarter of last year,
Broadcast.com's net loss almost tripled to $2.7 million.

The company said its strategy "is to acquire exclusive,
long-term Internet broadcast rights to streaming media
content provided by radio and television stations, networks
and ownership groups, college and professional sports
teams and leagues, production and film studios, record
labels, and other content providers."
