This, or something very similar, is where the NECX technology came from:

Conversion of Tires into Oil, Carbon Black and Pyrolysis Gas Reduce Disposal Costs
Case Study: CS425
***** DOCNO: 450-003-A-376*****
INDUSTRY/SIC CODE:
Rubber and Plastics/SIC = 15,16
NAME/CONTACT:
TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION:
POLLUTION PREVENTION OPTIONS SUMMARY
There are two companies, Energy Conversion and Enerco, that
market plants that convert waste tires into oil, carbon black and
pyrolysis gas. The first plant is a 50 t/day pyrolysis plant,
which can also generate electricity with additional hardware.
The second is a small plant which charges 6 tons of scrap tires
that are split in half lengthwise to ease storage and drain off
water. Each charge is fueled with up to half a cord of
unseasoned hardwood. The oil produced is sold to a nearby
apartment complex and the carbon black is sold through a
distributor.

HEADLINE: Conversion of scrap tires into oil, carbon black and
pyrolysis gas significantly reduce disposal costs and obtain
additional profit through the sale of useful product.

FEEDSTOCKS:
Waste tires

WASTES:
Wastewater, unrecovered waste

MEDIUM:
Water, solid

COST:
CAPITAL COST:
50 t/day plant - $3.5 million 6 t/day plant - reported as less capital-intensive

OPERATION/MAINTENANCE:
Not reported

MONTHS TO RECOVER:
Not reported

SAVINGS:
DISPOSAL & FEEDSTOCK: Recovered oil is sold for $0.65/gal,
carbon black for $0.25/lb versus $0.32-
$37 for virgin carbon black.

FEEDSTOCK REDUCTION: 50 t/day plant - produces 30,000 lb/day
carbon black, 5,000 gal/day oil
6 t/day plant - yields 500 gal or 70
million Btu of oil, 4,000 lb of carbon
black, 30 million Btu of gas

WASTE PRODUCTION: Tires no longer require disposal

IMPACT:
Large volume tires, typically dumped in a landfill, are being converted to salable products. Disposal costs are significantly reduced and additional profit is obtained through the sale of useful resources.

If you are:
a) tired of seeing old tires laying around
b) don't like the mosquitos and vermin that breed in them
c) give a damn about our swelling landfills
d) want your kids to have other way to earn money for camp
........you better invest in this killer technology.

TIRES = FUEL my friends, and NECX = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$..!!
