Chumbo.com First to Offer Customers Microsoft Office 2000 Pre-Orders

Business Wire - March 09, 1999 19:55

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 9, 1999--

Chumbo Beats Online Competition With Worldwide First -- Again

Chumbo, The Ultimate Source for Software(TM), today announced that customers can now pre-order Microsoft(R) Office 2000
on their Website, www.chumbo.com. Chumbo is the first company worldwide to take pre-orders for Office 2000 from retail
customers. Due to ship in Q2 1999, the Office 2000 Professional version can be purchased for $517.99, while the Small Business
Edition will retail at $431.99, and the Office Standard Edition Upgrade is $214.99.

"Once again Chumbo.com is the first online retailer on the planet to provide customers with the opportunity to secure one of
1999's most significant software releases," said David Prais, founder and president of Chumbo.com. "Last year, when we were
first to stock Windows(R) 98, our customers' response was amazing. A year later, with Chumbo's site traffic at an all-time high,
we expect considerable interest in Office 2000's vast array of new features and functionality."

Chumbo currently plans to ship both editions of Office 2000 24 hours ahead of the product's retail launch. As a result, Chumbo
customers will receive the product the same day it is launched. As with all pre-order software titles from the Chumbo site,
customers' credit cards will not reflect the purchase until the product is shipped.

Office 2000 includes the Microsoft Word word processing application, Excel spreadsheet application, Outlook(TM) personal
information manager, PowerPoint(R) presentation software and Access database application. Microsoft designed this version of
Office to provide users with the ability to publish and share Web documents without learning new skills or using unfamiliar tools.
For example, users will be able to create documents and save them directly to a Web server as easily as if they were saving
them to their hard drive. People can also open Office 2000 documents from a Web server and edit them with an Office
application.
