Okay, for openers, I own a core holding in Mexico Fund (MXF) that acts to cover lots of bases. I'm currently showing a profit of about 45% overall since starting the account in January of 1995. Not the best total return, but I can live with it while MXF gets going again. Since January, the price has risen from $9.25 (my last buy price) to today's $16-3/4 or about 81%. So far, so good.
Next, I have a position in Empresas ICA (ICA) which dates to 1995 also. Here, in an individual stock, I've managed to turn about 110% overall profit, but not without some work. I bought more shares in January at $3-5/8 and it's currently showing a price/share of $6-1/4 or a 72% run-up this year.
I owned Vitro, SA for some time and made money on it as well, but sold out of it a couple of years ago. VTO has been coming back nicely this year as well.
The method I use for managing the risk involved is called AIM. It requires me to average down when prices are falling and to sell portions of my holding as prices rise. Sort of automated "buy low, sell high." Since we are periodically asked to do significant buying, we need to keep cash on hand to have buying power. The interest on the cash helps to keep me content when the stocks go "flat" for a while.
I'm looking forward to hearing how some of the rest of you handle your investments south of zee border.
Best regards, Tom |
