HSS (through its wholly owned subsidiary VIP International Corporation) is an electronic distribution company that is currently is the process of a huge branch out to the Internet.

Basically HSS is a middleman between hotels and car rental locations and travel agents or individual Internet customers. HSS gets a commission each time a room or car is rented.

In the past HSS only dealt with travel agents (not individual client) and used a delayed electronic system. However in the last year HSS has released two products that allow users (both travel agents and Internet users) access to up to the minute rates and availability of the hotel rooms and cars, allows the users to book the room/car and allows them to receive immediate confirmation of their booking requests.

Product 1: The software, referred to “In Sync”, is used by travel agents to link to the hotel or car rental agent through HSS. This allows travel agents to check for availability and download clients requests directly onto the hotels or car rental location's database. “In sync's” first phase has already been completed and complete downloading to client's databases will commence by third quarter of 1999, while image inventory capability is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 1999. HSS is the first hotel or car representation company to position itself for downloading of reservation data direct to its client's systems.

Product 2: This is the product that really caught my attention. The software is referred to as “Weblink”. This web-based tool allows hotels and car rental companies to make their individual websites interactively bookable by a link through HSS's central reservation system. HSS has linked their clients to some of the major travel sites including: Microsoft's Expedia website (www.expedia.com), Travelocity (www.travelocity.com), Worldres (www.placestostay.com), and LeisurePlanet (www.leisureplanet.com). Each time a users goes to one of these sites and books a hotel or car from an HSS client HSS gets a commission. HSS stated in its most recent news release that it would be linked to at least three additional travel web sites no later than the fourth quarter. I recently talked with the IR for HSS and was told to expect an announcement on a deal with one of the larger travel sites very soon.

However HSS is presently in the process of going one step further and opening their own travel website which will be fully interactive and bookable by Internet users. This site is going to be opened in September 1999 according to both the most recent news release and confirmed by the HSS's IR.

Currently bookings through the Internet only account for 2% of HSS business. They have already seen a 46% increase in internet bookings in the past 6 months compared to last year and haven't even got all of their products out or their website up and running. The potential for growth is stunning to say the least.

Best Regards
KEITH
