Personally, I trade using this strategy:

1) I stay away from low-priced (penny) stocks.
2) Unless I really like something, I don't trade on Nasdaq.
3) I place limit orders inside the bid-ask spread. If a stock is trading at 25 - 25 3/8, I will try to buy it at 25 1/16. If I don't see the quote quickly change to 25 1/16 - 25 3/8, I'll complain to my broker. If I see a trade go by at 25 1/16 or lower before mine, I'll complain to my broker. If the bid moves past 25 1/16, I'll change my bid to beat it.
