Hi Jock. I don't think the postings have dropped off because the business model is good or bad. I think it has more to do with past decisions made about posters by the management that was in charge and by behavior of members towards other members.
I think hundreds and hundreds of people were terminated from the site and cannot post. The problem is they may or may not have been terminated fairly, and since they have no voice, (since they cannot post) no one will ever know.
Another reason I think that contributes to the lack of posting is that silicon investor has a problem with people that make it their mission to attack other people.
A person pays for his or her membership and then what happens? As soon as they post something that these self appointed policemen disagree with, they are harassed. So they leave. It's a mirror image of society at large where that ficticous "moral majority" is telling everyone else how to live.
So what do I think that present management should do?
Rather than get into a big investigation, review a lot of decisions, spend and waste a lot of time, just start over.
Just reactivate all the memberships that were terminated, don't make a big deal out of it, and get the site moving again. A message board without members is what? It's just an empty web page.
The precedents have already been set to allow people back that were terminated, remember that silly vote thread?? So that shouldn't be a problem.
The site was never an elite and exclusive bastion of geniuses, for every smart poster there was a dumb one, and every smart poster said some things that were dumb and every dumb poster said some things that were smart, true no matter what some people try and say to the contrary.
I also think that present management should pay more attention to those few posters that spend all their time worrying about what other people post, since I think that those people are "scaring off" a lot of people by their behavior.
Will the site become a haven for touts? Who knows? Who cares? Ignore them if you don't like them or what they say. At the present it's a haven for argument, negativity, back-biting, snipes, sarcasm, personal attacks, and general bad behavior from one member towards another. So if it's not working, try and see what the causes are, and fix it. I posted what I think the causes are. |
