CARMANAH AWARDED INTERNATIONAL TENDER FOR NAVIGATION LIGHTING
Vancouver, British Columbia – August 9, 2001 - Carmanah Technologies Corporation (CMH - CDNX) is
pleased to announce that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Carmanah Technologies Inc. (“Carmanah”), has
won an international tender to supply 408 solar L.E.D. (light emitting diode) marine lanterns to the
government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The tender is part of Vietnam’s initial efforts to upgrade the illumination of its waterways. The Vietnam
Inland Waterway Administration will be installing the Carmanah lanterns on navigation buoys in Ha Long
Bay and Hai Phong Harbour of North Vietnam, starting in October 2001.

Art Aylesworth, President and C.E.O. of Carmanah, states, “We are pleased with the results of this tender.
Carmanah has been aggressively pursuing worldwide markets and greater international exposure. Our
success in Vietnam is significant and is evidence that our efforts are paying off.”

Carmanah Releases Two New Web Sites

Carmanah Technologies Inc. is also pleased to announce the launch of two new web sites:

www.railwaylights.com
A site dedicated to hazard marking applications in the railway industry. This type of micro-market enables
the Corporation to focus its message specifically to railway lighting end users. The site provides
comprehensive information on Carmanah's model 209 and 509 products, designed specifically to meet the
Federal Railway Administration’s "blue light" legislation.

www.railwaycrossings.com
As of February, 2001, Carmanah has been under contract with Transport Canada to develop a
recommended Canadian standard for warning signals at road/railway grade crossings that incorporate new
L.E.D. (light emitting diode) technology. This web site supports Carmanah's efforts and presents the
Corporation’s Phase 1 Report along with the Proposed Specification. It also offers a discussion forum
encouraging feedback from all stakeholders across Canada.

Carmanah specializes in the design, manufacture and supply of patented, proprietary solar L.E.D. lighting
solutions for the marine, roadway and railway markets worldwide. Established in 1993 and headquartered
in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, the Corporation currently has over 80 distributors worldwide and
approximately 28,000 lights installed to-date. The shares of Carmanah Technologies Corporation (parent
company) are publicly traded on the Canadian Venture Exchange under the symbol “CMH”.
