DULUTH, Ga., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- ARRIS (Nasdaq: ARRS - news; a new company formed by the merger of ANTEC and Arris Interactive, L.L.C.), today announced that the Cornerstone CMTS 1500 has achieved CableLabs Qualified status for DOCSIS(TM) 1.1 standards. The Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) is the cable industry initiative that defines interface and interoperability requirements for products that provide high-speed access over interactive broadband networks.
``ARRIS has been deeply involved with CableLabs in developing the DOCSIS specifications since their inception,'' said Jim Lakin, President of ARRIS Broadband Division. ``The features of DOCSIS 1.1 now offer system operators the means to substantially increase profitability and provide service differentiation and Quality of Service to their subscribers. We are delighted that our CMTS 1500 with its DOCSIS 1.1 Qualification will play a leading role in deploying these advanced services. ARRIS has been totally committed to being the first to achieve DOCSIS 1.1 Qualification. Qualification of the CMTS 1500 provides our customers a smooth migration path from our existing DOCSIS 1.0 qualified platform while providing the base hardware and software for our future CMTS solutions.''
The Cornerstone CMTS 1500 allows operators to expand their subscriber base and build new revenue streams by confidently deploying advanced services such as tiered data and Telephony over IP. The CMTS 1500 provides operators with feature-rich performance and high reliability with a small footprint and easy- to-provision operations. It supports high levels of network availability through carrier-grade reliability features and alarms that indicate loss of communications with the Network Interface Unit (NIU) devices. The CMTS 1500 also provides 7:1 sparing for upstream receivers and redundant 100BaseT IP network interfaces.
Advanced services features also must meet stringent requirements from subscribers to maintain customer satisfaction. The impacts of system noise interference problems are effectively eliminated through the use of Intelligent Channel Seek(TM), a built in spectrum analyzer capability in the Cornerstone CMTS 1500, facilitating complete and hitless operation in the presence of ingress noise.
The CMTS 1500 is a key component of the ARRIS Cornerstone IP Access System. The IP Access System provides Edge Network Access solutions for Telephony over IP and high-speed data applications in broadband HFC Networks with DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS-based Network Interface Unit (NIU) devices. The IP Access System expands revenue opportunities by enabling differentiated services and tiered-service-level revenue streams. Cable operators can attract and retain customers with reliable high performance IP networks. The IP Access System's high performance is based on integration of the DOCSIS 1.1 Qualified Cornerstone CMTS 1500, the Modular Redundant Chassis (MRC) for automated CMTS failover protection, and a wire speed Layer 3 Router. Depending on network requirements, the IP Access System can be supplied with the Nortel Networks Passport 8600 or the Juniper ``M'' Class router for aggregation and forwarding of traffic from multiple CMTS. Combining high performance aggregation and edge routing capabilities with the extensive Layer 3 filtering and traffic management functions of the CMTS 1500 provides a highly scalable and cost effective solution for today's HFC architectures.
