A bit of hype from Forbe magazine & David Redstone.
Micro application of fuel cell - cell phone and electronics.

+++++++++++++
--snip---

But another company, Medis Technologies (nasdaq: MDTL - news - people ), has the best technology in the world for things like cell phones and PDAs. Its micro fuel cells are a unique technology and there aren't any on the market now. The first product using this technology will be a charger. With a $1 fuel cell cartridge you can recharge the phone. Medis is poised to sign major partners and there could be an unbelievable story here. It's run like a private company. The float is tightly held by close friends and management. They do rights offerings and get the cash they need. They don't need to go to the street so they don't get analyst coverage. It's my biggest play. [Editor's Note: Thinly traded Medis can at times trade at wide spreads.]

Medis invented a whole new chemistry that blows out everything else. Besides that, its technology does not need platinum--something every other fuel cell company requires. That makes it less expensive.

I would go so far as to say that Medis' technology could bring back the market. Japan's NTT DoCoMo (nyse: DCM - news - people ) put out its 3G system and it failed partly because handhelds using the system couldn't get enough battery power to run applications. Phones would last half an hour and die. Medis' technology could solve that problem, allowing people to watch movies on their phones. And if telecom comes back, so will the market.
